NEW BEGINNINGS - START THE YEAR WITH ASHTANGA YOGA

WITH ISABELLA NITSCHKE

2 - 5 JANUARY, 2020

Learn Ashtanga yoga's basics with experienced teacher Isabella Nitschke from Ashtanga Yoga Malmö

The weekend gives you an introduction to Ashtanga yoga's basics and is aimed at those who have never tried yoga before, but also to those who have already practiced other types of yoga but want to learn Ashtanga properly from scratch.

We start with a brief introduction to the philosophy of yoga, followed by a gradual learning of Sun Salutations, standing asanas (positions) and part of Ashtanga yoga's first series. The focus is mainly on learning how to synchronize breathing and movement (so-called vinyasa krama), gaining knowledge about Bandhas (energy lock in the body) and Drishti (focus of the eyes). You will learn techniques to increase your presence in the now with increased awareness of body and mind.

You also learn how to exercise and move safely to avoid injury and instead strengthen the body to become both strong and flexible. We also talk about the positive effects of yoga for both physical and mental well-being and how regular practice can help us feel and function better in life.

Teaching is Isabella Nitschke, Authorized Level II by Sharath Jois in Mysore, India. Isabella Nitschke owns and runs the yoga school Ashtanga Yoga Malmö at Värnhemstorget in Malmö where she teaches Ashtanga yoga Mysore-style daily.

Isabella found yoga more than 15 years ago after a runner injury and since then yoga has helped her heal both body and soul on several levels. Isabella has devoted most of the past eight years of her yoga practice and teaching to exploring how yoga affects our nervous system, mental health, and especially how regular exercise contributes to increasing our stress resistance and ability to self-regulate.

Her teaching style is inclusive and aims to create a safe space for all participants. She places particular emphasis on the importance of breathing and that learning should take place gradually, step by step.

Isabella has the blessing of Sharath Joi to share Ashtanga yoga's first and second series and has assisted him on two month long occasions in the big shala in Mysore. Isabella is also a trained yoga therapist for mental health, lifestyle coach and relaxation educator. She has more than 19 years of experience working in health and fitness in Sweden and internationally and has studied both anatomy and movement mechanics as well as Sanskrit, yoga philosophy and chanting.  You can learn more about Isabella at www.ashtangayogamalmo.se
